We went to Blachford Lake Lodge this past weekend and had an awesome time! Friday morning we headed out to Reid Lake with our snowmobiles on a trailer and met up there with a guide to snowmobile with us out to the lodge. As it turns out, we wouldn't have needed a guide, as the trails were so well marked it would have been impossible to get lost! But it was good to have him along as he had a toboggan for us to put our backpacks in. It was a 50 mile (80 km) trip, and we made it there in 2 1/2 hours. We weren't going super fast as our guide was pulling a toboggan, plus I really don't like going fast so the pace was just right for me. The trails were so nice getting out there, not so bumpy like the ones near Yellowknife. Once we got there we spent our weekend snowshoeing, sitting in the outdoor hot tub, going for walks, doing more snowmobiling, and sliding down the hill on a sealskin sliding mat. The food was AWESOME, everyday we had a nice breakfast, lunch and supper...yum yum yum. On Sunday morning we went on an hour dog sled ride, which was a neat experience too. These weren't racing dogs, but expedition dogs, so the pace was not fast but that was fine with me. Oh and the Aurora Borealis (northern lights) were amazing Saturday evening, what a show! Too bad my camera doesn't take good pics of them. All in all, it was a great weekend, and Rebecca did well for our friends The Henry's and Amanda back in Yellowknife. I put 130 miles (2o8 kms) on my sled that weekend, and came home Sunday evening tired but happy. The weekend was a lot of fun and I'd love to go back there next winter, if possible. Here are some pictures:
